A Family Supported to Thrive – Louise’s Story

“I originally self-referred to Thrive back at the beginning of 2025, just a few months after my mum died. I felt absolutely hopeless; other services couldn’t help my family and I – they said we were either too complex or not complex enough. Thrive felt like my last hope – I was ready to give up.

Thrive have supported me in a number of different ways so far, whether that’s helping me with parenting, communicating with other professionals, clearing out rooms and taking unwanted stuff to the tip, coming to baby groups with us, or just letting me have a rant or cry down the phone. They really are so versatile and non-judgemental. I’m never worried about having them round if my house isn’t tidy or my children are playing up.

I’ve always lacked confidence, especially as a mother, but I’m so grateful to the support workers for always believing in me when I’m feeling hopeless and like a rubbish mum. Attending their groups has really helped with my confidence, and I’ve made new friends, which has helped with the feelings of isolation too. There are so many mums and families struggling like I am, and it’s been great to share stories and tips with each other. As a family, we feel important – not like a statistic or a tick-box activity trying to be completed.

We’re still being supported by Thrive, and they will never truly understand how much they are helping our family. Things are still quite hard, and I know at times it must be frustrating working with us, especially when progress isn’t always linear because of the number of barriers along the way. But they’ve never given up on us. I can see how far we’ve come since starting with Thrive, and how much more potential there is yet to come. Thrive is like one big family, where everyone looks out for and supports each other.

By the end of my time with Thrive, I hope to feel more confident with parenting, have a more decluttered house, have a greater understanding of domestic abuse, be able to budget more effectively, be more resilient with my mental health and, most importantly, have built enough confidence in myself that I don’t need to ask for reassurance from others.”
