Homes for Ukraine Wraparound Support Service

The service

Using the most appropriate means available to improve people’s wellbeing and self-sufficiency, Homes for Ukraine provides face to face family centred support that engages Ukrainians and builds their confidence to settle into their new neighbourhood and live independently.

Connection Support and Refugee Resource are working in partnership to provide this person/family-centred service, drawing on both organisations’ extensive experience of supporting refugees and asylum seekers.

What can we help with?

We’re able to:

  • Discuss well-being needs in a supportive, safe and confidential space
  • Help to join classes, complete training courses, gain employment etc
  • Signpost towards a range of services and in some cases, support to access them, if required
  • Help people gain an understanding of the cultural norms and achieve an increased sense of belonging in their local community
  • Consider information and advice about local services, including the following key areas:
    • Housing
    • Health, including wellbeing and mental health
    • Employment and skills/training
    • Benefits
    • Leisure
    • Digital inclusion
    • Transport

We also offer occasional support to Ukrainian hosts should a situation arise that might affect the relationship with their guest.

Who is the service for?

Individuals and/or families will need to have come to Oxfordshire under the Homes for Ukraine scheme (or similar), or be a host under the scheme requesting support on behalf of their guests.

How do we work?

We offer a friendly and welcoming front door, delivering 1:1 ‘surgery sessions’ at community and public venues and at our organisation’s offices around Oxfordshire, as well as in client’s own homes where needed.  *All our Community Support Workers have enhanced DBS checks and are fully trained in undertaking the role.

We offer people a range of information, advice and signposting with community services and take a ‘do with’ rather than ‘do to’ approach to helping people consider the areas of their lives and personal wellbeing they want to improve.  We will also work closely with other support providers and services in the community to develop our information and advice resources, and also reduce risks around duplication of support.
